Recently there has been a onslaught of vacation rental by owner websites.  With HomeAway (a major player in this industry) recently going public you can expect to see many more websites popping up.  We encourage placing your property in as many locations as possible.  Unless you have very deep pockets this can be costly as well as time consuming.  We have used the following websites for many years both as vacation renters and as property owners.  The sites listed below are by far the most effective options and seeing a quick return on your investment is with in reason.  We strongly you advise you list your rental on all three.

HomeAway

This is the biggest company in the owner rental property industry and is by far the most logical choice for advertising.  A listing on HomeAway gives owners the most polished professional presentation to guests. HomeAway maintains a national television campaign and a strong online presence.  A listing with HomeAway includes up to 24 photos and reaches travelers in across the globe on their 15 world wide websites. When you advertise with HomeAway you are also eligible for their performance guarantee.  That means if you do not get at least one directly generated booking from them they will provide you a full refund!  With that type of guarantee there is not reason not to list today.

VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner)

This is the owner rental website that started it all.  Originally established in 1995 by a group of property owners looking to fill a missing niche, the site quickly grew into the authority for booking homes and condos directly through owners.  Eventually HomeAway purchased VRBO but they still run a separate entities and have done so for years.  Although VRBO is not as esthetically pleasing or as easy to use as HomeAway both it's reach and following are significantly greater.  Most owners use one or the other.  To maximize your income and occupancy we strongly recommend using both.  Take your time to learn the back end and try not to get overwhelmed.  Do not neglect VRBO!

Vacation Rentals

Unlike the two websites above this website (although well named) is a little less well known.  That translates to homeowners as a better priced listing and less competition.  With only 35,000 listings world wide the competition is less fierce.  This may be the secret weapon for putting your numbers over the top. VacationRentals.com also give you a free opportunity to promote a special, which is ideal if a secured renter cancels last minute.  With a one year performance guarantee similar to HomeAway and a listing price this affordable there is no reason not to see why we recommend this website for yourself.  Don't tell too many people though, we still list our homes with Vacation Rentals!
